Teas are wonderful. We're big fans of their hot, natural and delicious goodness, but did you know you can supercharge them to a whole new level by chilling them and using them in smoothies?
Traditionally smoothies will use water, milk or even coconut water as a base, but it can get monotonous if you're having the same thing every day. Plus heavy fruit and dairy smoothies can end up being calorific, sugar laden and not all that healthy. So with Summer fast approaching, a chilled tea added to a breakfast blend instead can help kickstart your morning and set you on the right path for the day.
We've put together an easy, quick and tasty green smoothie recipe, that packs a punch.
Basil (or mint)
TEATOX Skinny Good Morning Tea
First of all, brew your TEATOX tea and set aside to cool. For this smoothie we double brewed the tea (used twice the amount and let it steep for 10 minutes) to get a stronger flavour and colour. Let it do its thing, then chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
To save time, we made more than we needed for our smoothie and stored our TEATOX blend in a glass bottle in the fridge. This is useful if you're busy and want to make something fast, so it's okay to brew your tea the night before and use it the next day. Stored properly, it should keep in the fridge for a few days.
Wash your ingredients and chop if necessary and add everything to your blender / smoothie maker of choice. Whizz it up, pour into a glass, and enjoy!
This smoothie is a great beauty food. The cucumber contains the important nail health-promoting mineral silica. The basil is rich in Vitamin K which is great for your skin, and spinach which contains high amounts of vitaminK, A, C, B2, B6, B1, E, manganese, zinc, iron, omega-3 and can help promote hair growth.
The TEATOX contains green tea, mate (a real fighter of physical and mental fatigue) and its hunger-suppressing effect makes it popular as a slimming agent, as well as nettle and goji berries which are brimming with antioxidants and therefore help strengthen the immune system.
