'The Ordinary’ 5 step skin care guide for a brighter complexion

Heard of “The Ordinary’? The brand is another stem of The Deciem group who gave us ‘NIOD’. With so many affordable items to choose from, it can be quite a challenge when it comes to knowing where to start. So we thought we’d help you out.

It is important to consider that not all skin types are the same, therefore skincare routines will vary, we will be focusing on how to brighten up a dull complexion in this blog!

A good place to start is to ensure that you have nothing on your skin, cleanse your face with a cleanser of your choice to remove any makeup or excess oils. This ensures the products that will be used are effectively absorbed into the skin. Apply any eye products you are using at this stage.

Step 1:

Apply a few drops of the Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA to your face to begin with.

What does it do?

It comes in the form of a gel-like serum texture and includes a highly concentrated dose of alpha arbutin. This ingredient is great for evening out your complexion because it reduces the melanin production, and targets hyperpigmentation, age spots, dark spots and scars. This serum includes hyaluronic acid, which causes the serum to penetrate deep beneath the surface of the skin. Remember, this serum shouldn’t be used on broken skin.Alpha Arbutin

Step 2:

Next, apply a few drops of Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum. This step can be used in conjunction with, or instead of step 1.

What does it do?

This serum is great at combating blemishes, enlarged pores and an uneven skin tone. So for any of you that are battling a breakout, this little bottle could just be the potion you need! The serum functions to regulate sebum production (an oily substance produced via your skin, too much of this can cause pimples), and minimise pores. However, this is not an acne treatment. Niacinamide boosts skins immunity and enhances moisture retention, whereas the zinc functions to repair damaged skin and boost collagen production.

Step 3:

Next, apply a few drops of Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%.

What does it do?

It contains a water-soluble derivative of vitamin C. Topical treatments containing vitamin C greatly benefit skin through brightening it.
