For millions of people, a sore throat is usually the first sign that they are about to get a cold or flu. But before you call your doctor or reach for your drugstore medicine, here are some natural remedies that you can find in your kitchen pantry.

Echinacea is shown to reduce symptoms and shorten the common cold. Combined with ginger, thyme, and mint, it makes a soothing throat spray to help combat your sore throat.
Combine ginger, thyme, and mint in a jar with enough boiling water to cover the herbs. Steep for 20 minutes, strain the herbs and then mix with an equal amount of food-grade alcohol. Transfer to a glass spray bottle and spray.
If you're having trouble falling asleep, a hot toddy can help! When sipped in moderation, drinking a hot toddy can shorten your cold and help with your sore throat.
Pour hot water into a mug and steep 1 herbal tea for a few minutes. Mix in 1 tablespoon of honey, juice from 1/4th of a lemon, and 1 ounce of bourbon or whiskey.
For an extra soothing remedy, steam will warm up your respiratory tract and clear away excess mucus in your lungs and throat. It also doubles up as an aromatherapy facial too!
All you'll need to do is add eucalyptus into a boiling pot of water or bowl. If you don't have any eucalyptus branches, a few drops of eucalyptus oil will do. Place a large towel over your head and shoulders and breathe through your nose and mouth for 10 minutes.
Apple cider vinegar is a potent anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent, so it helps to kill the bacteria in your throat by lowering the pH of your throat tissue. This drink will keep the bacteria from growing and when mixed with honey (another anti-bacterial agent!), it will help with the pain and infection.
Just add 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar and 2 teaspoons honey in 8 ounces of water.
Here's a classic remedy that your grandma probably gave to you! This concoction helps to decrease the swelling pain, and can loosen the mucus to flush out the bad bacteria.
Mix 1/2 teaspoon table salt and 1 cup of warm water. Gargle every few hours.
