At Sulis & Thermae, we are so proud to carry so many amazing brands, including Elemental Herbology. Today, we have an exclusive interview with Louise Riby, who is Elemental Herbology's managing director. As an industry expert, we wanted to share Louise's beauty tips and to give you an inside look into her day.
What advice would you give to people who are new to natural/organic beauty?
The first thing to notice is that natural products may smell different compared to other products that have synthetic fragrance in them. Added fragrances and artificial colouring may also affect the texture and feel of the product.
What’s your favourite part of your job? I love hearing feedback and reviews of our products from our customers. Whether it’s a phone call to customer services, an e-mail or a comment on social media, I think it’s hugely important to listen to their needs and what they enjoy using. That way we can constantly improve and launch exciting new products that they’ll love!
Can you describe what does your typical workday looks like? No two days are ever the same but I usually cycle into work from my home in West London. The morning is spent catching up with different departments and answering e-mails. If we have time we occasionally go for a delicious lunch at an Italian deli close to the office. The afternoons are typically spent in Central London attending meetings and at least once a week I’ll be at an event in the evening. This could either be an industry event or at one of our fabulous spas. Teaching people about the Five Elements and introducing them to our skincare and body care collections.
Can you share some top tips on glowing from the inside (wellness) and out (skincare & cosmetics)? There are two things that I think are essential to be glowing on the inside. The first is making sure you get enough sleep, if you’re tired and drained all the time it can have a negative effect on your mood, diet and stress levels. So it’s important to make sure you get enough sleep and don’t use electronic devices in bed which can disturb sleep. The second is exercise, even a 30-minute walk every day can drastically improve your wellbeing. When it comes to skincare, it's essential to exfoliate once a week to encourage cell renewal. I also think that double cleansing is a great way to remove impurities while also putting nourishment back into the skin. Finally, using a deeply hydrating night cream, such as Facial Soufflé from our Moisture Replenish range, will not only help skin repair from environmental damage overnight but also help replace lost moisture.
If you had to choose one, which product from your line would you not be without? Cell Nourish Radiance & Vitality Serum is the one product that I couldn’t be without. I use it every morning and evening after I’ve cleansed my skin. It’s suitable for all skin types and everyone who uses it can see and instant improvement in their skin.
What is the best piece of beauty advice you have ever been given? Remove makeup before bed no matter what and always make sure you have water close by to stay hydrated.
