After the indulgence of Christmas, it's fair to say that in the hectic rush of shopping, parties and much needed family time our skin can end up feeling a little bit neglected. All that rich food, champagne and relaxation can disrupt our normal routines and perhaps, like us, you've started January feeling like a little bit of discipline is needed.
A lot of resolutions we make in the new year don't really last. It's not realistic to wake up January 1st and expect to overhaul our lifestyles and change our old habits overnight, but if you make a few small changes the results can be game changing.
There's lots of talk of new diet and fitness fads this time of year, but what about our skin? Here are three easy skincare resolutions that you'll really want to keep. Trust us on this one.
1. I will always take my make up off before bed
We all know this beauty sin. Leaving your make up on overnight leads to clogged pores, dull skin and less than perfect pillows in the morning. If you're someone who's always spinning plates and juggling a myriad of responsibilities, sometimes you can forget that last little step before collapsing into the duvet after a long, stressful day.
Rather than forcing it, try to make your nightly skincare routine a thing of pleasure, not obligation. Skincare can be a thing of joy, and so try to see those precious 5 minutes in the bathroom as a little break for yourself. Turn your sink into a spa, and make it your own little slice of sanctuary. To break up the monotony, throw in a few new products, and you'll soon start to see taking off your make up as 'me time'.
Want to try something new? These three facial cleansers should do the trick.
1. Dr Alkaitis: Purifying Cleanser
2. Suki Skincare: Purifying Foaming Cleanser
3. Su-Man Skincare: Purifying Cleansing Gel Oil
2. I will try something new
Stuck in a rut? The truth of the matter is our skin is always changing so whilst it's really great to use tried and tested products that work for you, they might not always be the best thing you need all the time. For example, our skin needs lots of moisture and hydration in winter, are you sure you're getting enough? As the skin ages, it needs more TLC, is your moisturiser still doing the trick?
These specialist products can be great additions to your existing routine.
1. Phytomone: Pause Hydra Creme - Great for menopausal skin
2. Cloud 9: Tranquility Ultra Soothing Cream For Dry, Damaged Skin
3. I will give my skin the nutrition it needs
Great products can truly do wonders, but in the same way you can't out-train a bad diet, you can't out-cleanse one either! If you're not getting the right nutrients, no amount of cleansing, scrubbing and moisturising is ever going to undo what's going on inside your body. We wrote a whole post about skin friendly foods on the blog a few months ago, but changing the diet takes serious work.
Take a little short cut with some of these super skin supplements and you'll glow from the inside out!
1. Fountain: The Beauty Molecule
2. Bare Biology: Lion Heart Liquid
So there we have it, three easy beauty resolutions that don't take a huge amount of commitment but pay off in big ways. Are you planning to make any changes to your skincare routine in the new year? Let us know in the comments below!
