Protect Your Lips This Winter

As the Autumn leaves fall, and we pull out our favourite winter pieces from the back of the wardrobe it's time to get serious about protecting our skin. One of the first signs that the cold weather is here is the rise in chapped lips, brought on by wet and freezing outdoor conditions combined with harsh central heating, both of which can dry out our delicate skin and leave our lips feeling dry and sore.

Winter is a great time to play with statement lip colours such as bold reds and rich purples so here are our top tips to ensure you stay kissable throughout winter.

1) Stay hydrated

In the Summer months it's easy to remember to drink water, as the heat serves as a constant reminder to stay well watered. When it gets cold though, grabbing a cold bottle of water is often the last priority. When you get dehydrated the lips are often the first thing to dry out, so keep a bottle handy and remember to swig at regular intervals to ensure your lips are nourished from the inside.

2) Don't lick your lips

It's tempting to lick dry lips, and often happens as an impulse but it's a habit you need to break because in the long run you will end up doing more harm than good. The temporary relief you get when you lick them is outlived by the drying effect, as the saliva on your lips evaporates it takes more moisture with it, leaving your lips feeling tight and even drier than when you started.

3) Use the right products

If you've got dry skin on your lips but want to rock a bold lip colour, the first step is to gently buff away all the excess skin to leave you with a smooth surface. This lip exfoliator  from Ling Skincare contains State-of-the-Art ingredients meet Asian beauty secrets in this precision exfoliator specially formulated for the delicate eye contour area and lips. The best lip balms are the ones specially formulated for what you need, so do some research and check to see if you're allergic to any ingredients as this will irritate your lips further. If you want a soothing balm that will deliver a huge burst of hydration, you will love Dr Lipp's Nipple Balm For Lips which is an incredible multi use product made from 100% medical grade Lanolin.
