Monday mornings, not the most pleasant of experiences. Especially if you've had a hectic weekend. Our sleep patterns can have drastic effects on our wellbeing, and if you're a night owl, chances are you're reaching for the snooze button when your alarm goes off every morning.
If you find it hard to feel refreshed and awake in the mornings, here are a few tips to help you on your way to natural beauty nirvana, even with a dreaded early start.
1. Avoid sugary breakfasts
That pre lunch energy slump could be down to a sugar crash. Though it might feel good in the short term to get something sweet and caffeinated into your system, long term you might end up just feeing worse. Charge up on slow release carbohydrates and an anti oxidant rich cup of green tea to help see you through to the afternoon without hitting a wall.
If you've slept undisturbed for 7 hours or more, chances are you're going to be very thirsty when you wake up. Chugging a big glass of water when you get up kickstarts your body and replenishes fluids, helping you feel more awake.
It might be the last thing you want to do, but getting in an early morning workout could help set you up for the day, and actually fill you with adrenaline. Half the battle is getting up and getting dressed, so make it as easy as possible to get moving by prepping your workout gear the night before and leaving it somewhere it's easy to grab. Chances are, by the time you've put on your trainers, you'll have already committed to hitting the gym.
4. Calm your skin
If you're prone to puffy eyes, and you're not getting enough sleep, no amount of make up is going to cover those dark circles. Using an illuminating concealer will help, but if you want to eliminate the redness and puffiness. This eye relief pen from skyn ICELAND can be dabbed under the eye area for a cooling sensation that will bring relief to tired looking eyes.
5. Create an easy skin routine
If you're not a morning person, chances are, you'll want to spend every extra minute in bed, so having an overly complex skin routine is the last of your worries. A multi use product that covers all bases could be a great solution. ARgENTUM's award winning La Potion Infinie is a great one stop moisturiser that works in place of a serum, so all it takes is a splash of cold water and a few gentle dabs later and you're ready to face the day.
6. Get that natural light
Dark blinds and curtains are lovely when you can sleep in, but you need sunlight to help keep your natural body clock in check. In the summer time that's easy, but in winter it's a lot tougher. Take advantage of the spring weather and throw your curtains open when you first wake up, flooding your room with natural light. This will signal to your body that it's daytime, and help the wake up process.
